Summer Travels: Portland

This was a summer of travels for me.  The first trip I took was with my husband, that fabulous man.

I had always wanted to take a train trip and so we took off to Portland.

The trip took about 26 hours.  It was so much fun traveling in our roomette.  If you've never taken a train trip, I recommend it.  The views out the window were really fabulous.

Once we got to Portland, we set out to see the city.

Of course we stopped at Voodoo Doughnuts.

Brian got the voodoo man and reported that he was delicious.

We traveled all over the city and saw wonderful sights.  We always try to see the library in whatever city we visit.  Portland's did not disappoint.

Beverly Cleary's books played a huge part in my childhood, so naturally, I went bananas when I saw this section of the library.

Brian and I had such fun in Portland.  It was a great way to kick off the summer.

More travel reports to come!

Hi Betty - what fun ... I used to travel quite regularly up and down to Penzance in the night train ... but can quite understand your Roomette must have been a treat. The Beverly Cleary Library - what fun: a great library, with childhood memories and just being able to wander around Portland with Brian and a carefree time ... looking forward to more ... cheers Hilary

This was so interesting Betty reading about another Portland, you see we also have a Portland further along the coast by Weymouth where they had the 2012 sailing Olympics.
Pleased you had a good time.
Yvonne.

My sister went in July and is headed back again this month. She said the weather was much more pleasant than here. I've been on a short, day excursion on a train and really liked it.

Beverly Cleary... I blame her for my unhealthy affection for Triumph motorcycles. Its really not her fault, but Im gonna blame her anyway. [the illustration on the cover of 'The Mouse and the Motorcycle' is a Triumph Thunderbird. and yes, I still have my original copy of the book...]

BB I'm now caught up with your last two post. I'm please as punch to hear you and your Brian had a good summer full of fun. I guess you are about ready to start classes again.

My summer has been full of renovations...you know about them!! They take on a life of their own.
We have decided to age in place so we had our master bath gutted tub/shower replaced with a walkin shower. I LOOOOVEEEE it. Other baths got mini makeovers. Entire house interior painted and all new flooring. It has been a marathon and somehow survived.
Hugs Madi and Cecilia
