Spoiled Betty

Call me spoiled.

Go ahead.

It won't be the first time I've been called that and normally, I would disagree just because I am programmed to, but in the case of produce, I truly am.  I live in California, in one of the most highly productive areas of the country and organic is starting to catch on with a lot of farmers.

So, Brian and I started subscribing to a service that provides a box of organic produce every two weeks.  You don't get to choose what you get, but you get whatever is fresh and in season.  The price is $25.00 and we pick up our box at a local gym.

Today we got our first box!

Let's see what's inside, shall we?

Ohhhhhh!  Sugar snap peas and black kale!

                                                                     Let's dig deeper.

Lemons!  Romaine!  Rainbow Chard!  But wait!  There's more!

More kinds of lettuce and radishes too!

Onions!  Strawberries! Oh My!

I can't wait to make some great salads!

What beautiful surprises will our next box hold?

Stay tuned!

There's a service here that does that. My wife and I are thinking of subscribing, because fresh, organic produce delivered would be nice.

Oh what a colorful box of healthy food. Do I spy rhubarb? I love strawberry/rhubarb pie. I expect you will thoroughly enjoy this new subscription. I don't; however, one day I came home to find a huge box sitting on my back porch. Of course I was suspicious. I had not ordered anything and NO one leaves anything on our back porch. So I approached with caution. I forget the name of the company. Thankfully there was a packing slip taped to the top. Lo and behold it was a lovely box of freshness....but NOT mine. The company came quickly to pick it up after all it was supposed to be fresh. It was a hot day and things were wilting.

I go to a farm shop - as I tried an organic box .. but it's too much for one ..

Enjoy - the fruits and veg will be delicious .. cheers Hilary

I have said before, if I decide to be a "localvore", I will move to CA. Everything looks great.

Lemons AND strawberries!? Wow, you are spoiled! I won't hold it against you, though. California's neverending growing season is pretty amazing, and I'm glad you're enjoying it.

Hello Betty:

How exciting!! Alas this is all far too advanced for The Motherland and also where the word 'organic' is sadly almost unknown.

Wow, beautiful! I don't know where you live, exactly, but if you are anywhere near 7 Cats Farm, that's my friend, Syd's place. I can't remember where it is. I know. This is not a helpful comment really, but I believe in the power of the serendipitous comment. You might actually live right down the street from 7 Cats Farm. Maybe you'll stop by. Maybe Syd will be there. Maybe you'll say, "Hey, Chicken sent me. She says, "Hi". Maybe Syd will say, "Well, this cucumber must be for you. I had a vision". Maybe you'll take the cucumber home, cut it into slices and notice there are exactly 23 seeds. Maybe it will stick with you. Maybe you'll be in a casino somewhere on a long weekend playing roulette. Maybe you'll say, "What the hell" and put all your tokens or whatever you call them on black 23. Or is it red? I don't know. I just know that you'll win. Because. Serendipity.

They had something like that in Utah that I never got around to taking advantage of that I'm not wishing I had. But they might be bringing it to where we live now, so here's hoping.
