Hello, My People!

Yesterday, some gal pals and I ventured into Hollywood to take another Secret Stair Walk.

Some of you may remember these are hikes that explore the staircases built into the hillsides of the Los Angeles area in the 1920's when the idea was that LA would be built around a trolley system.

Here's Karen, leading the pack up one of the staircases.
She was our fearless guide and carried the all-important guide book.
Here's just one of the many staircases. They are challenging, and maybe a little addicting too. There were a total of 421 stairs on this walk.
The hike went through a great neighborhood, full of architectural surprises, like these two orange houses.
This campanile-style tower is actually an elevator for thirty of the residents that live in the area.
It was a relatively clear day and so we went up by the Hollywood sign and got a great view of the city.

That does sound like fun but exhausting. What great exercise but the sights look terrific too. Glad you had a good time. Have a super Sunday
How fun!!! What a great day with good friends :)
What great fun! And good exercise too!
WELL DONE you lovely amazing and ever so FIT ladies!!! Phew!! I'm exhausted and slightly dizzy just by looking at the pics of the stairs! Oh but the views are worth it! Yay! take care
x
What a great way to spend the day, and I love the view from the top! My knees hurt a little just looking at the picture of the stairs, though. Haha! I'm glad to hear you had a good time. :-)
looks like loads of fun.
Wow, I had no idea there were stairs built into the hills - fascinating. Thanks for the photos!
I love the idea of these secret stair hikes. Great exercise, good company and fine views. You're looking vibrant in these photos, Betty.
That is so cool, I had know idea there were secret stairs, I'm off to hunt for them!
It's no wonder everyone is so skinny out there!! I'd have to call that the "Gludes Walk"!!
Good to see you having fun and smiling, Betty!
How is it I grew up in Hollywood, yet I never knew anything about these stairs?
My leg muscles are screaming at the thought! You ladies must be really tough, with legs (and knees) of steel.
Good exercise and good company - a winning combination.
I love these secret stair hikes.
My legs would be kaput at about the 50-step mark - kukos to you for being able to do this! Sounds like an intriguing walk.
Love the photos..especially the
view of the city from the sign...
I'm not sure I would be able to keep in the stair climbing... the 15 little steps in the parking garage are often
too much after working all night.
until your first post, I had no idea about the stairs. I shared your last post with friends who live near LA and both had not heard of them either. look forward to more stairs (watching, not climbing)
Sounds like a fun day with some great exercise.
Sounds like fun. I've never heard of the secret stairs. You learn something every day. I'll put that on my list of things to do. Thanks for sharing.
Looks like you had a fun time. My legs would be so sore!
Healthy, interesting and providing lovely photos!!
Didn't know there was a secret stair walk - how cool. Looks like you had an awesome time:)
Ooooo, stairs! My butt would be burning. Make sure you pop some ibuprofen. Looks like a fabulous hike, though.
Forget the stairmaster, this would be so much more fun! Looks like a wonderful day especially since it's been doing nothing but raining here :o(
This was fun. You do the work, and we get to see the views. Loved the view from the Hollywood sign.
Looks like you are having some fun. Good for you!
Big hugs!
xo Catherine
Fun and a lot of exercise! L.A. is such a big city with such a small skyline. It always surprises me...
Hi Betty!
How cool is this? Looks like a ton of fun.
I would pass out after half a stair case.. sigh.
Looks like a blast. :) I want an elevator like that. Super cool!!
In all the years I've traveled there, I've never known about the secret stairs! Not that I could climb 400 steps, however - ha!
