Finally, FUN!

My house has been pretty quiet since both boys left for college and HOB left for his new life. I am still adjusting to life alone and facing the prospect of being divorced.

All in all, it's been pretty dismal around this house and, well, lonely too.

I have burrowed away in my house and isolated myself more than I should. This whole divorce thing plays with my head A LOT and it takes courage just to do some of the things that used to be a natural part of my life.

When my sister came to town, I took a deep breath and decided to come out of my shell a little and invite some gal pals from school over for dinner. These lovely ladies (most of them, teachers) have been such a great support to me. They watch out for me at school, check in with me, and guide me back to sanity when I start to stray.

(One of these women thinks I don't know that she looks in on me in my classroom every day, just to make sure I am there, upright and doing OK. I know she does, though, and it makes me smile when I see her out of the corner of my eye.)

Can I tell you what a joy it was to have these beauties come over and have dinner with me?

It did me a world of good to entertain again. Best of all, my house was filled with laughter, and chatter, and genuine warmth.

At one point, I went to the kitchen as they all sat at the table and I listened to their voices and their laughter and my eyes filled with tears of gratitude. I felt their support and love all around me.

I felt like the luckiest person on earth.

Later on, things got a little wild when we broke out the candy cigarettes and wine.

When good teachers go bad.

I am not sure what I ever did to deserve such good friends, but I am indeed grateful for them!

I wish I could get all of you, my blogging buddies, around a big table and thank you for all of your support too. I appreciate you all more than you will ever know.

Happy Wednesday!

The support of good friends is priceless! I love it that you gals kicked up your heals a little bit. Though I guess candy cigarettes are only so risque! Haha!

Love it!

Good friends are so important, aren't they? We take them for granted most of the time. Happy to see that you don't. ☺

Umm...Candy Cigarettes? LOVE them! I'm tempted to buy them from Wichita's Nifty Nut House (www.niftynuthouse.com) every year when I buy the kids' Christmas candy. Alas, Momma can't be that kind of bad influence. Sigh.

Happy Wednesday! ☺

Good on ya! :) That whole "it's hard to go out and do normal stuff" sounds like depression...but you're taking steps to climb back up to normal. I'm envious of your ability to surround yourself with friendship and support.

Wouldn't a Bossy Betty reunion be a fun trip? I can only imagine...

So how are the boys doing in their respective adventures? (The younger two I mean; I don't really care what FHOB is up to.)

I got a little misty-eyed just reading this. It's so sweet that you have such good friends! And so many of them!! That speaks volumes of YOU, Betty.

One of my favorite quotes is from Michael J. Fox: I don't cry for the bad in the world, I cry for all the good we have.

Yeah. Me too.

Nothing like wine-drinking, candy-cigarette smoking ladies to pick up your spirits. Thank GAWD for girlfriends! You're fortunate, Betty. So happy to see you counting you blessings here--I know it's hard to do when you're down, but your appreciation demonstrates how far you've come.

Wishing you many continued blessings!

Friends are the real jewels of life. Sad that it takes the darkest of times to allow them to shine.

Hoping you have many more candy cigarette filled evenings. :)

What a beautiful blog post! I know how hard divorce is on a woman's heart and soul -- not because I've experienced it firsthand but because I have three sisters who I supported through their divorces. I'm so happy you have such loving friends. Women rock!! No other way around it!

And the idea of blogging friends -- blog sisters! -- around a big table? Well, the image in my mind makes me smile.

Best of luck to you!

Gal pals are a massive blessing: truly a gift from above.

I'm going to a slumber party with mine on Friday night.
We're going to pray and talk and hot tub and eat and laugh: and I wouldn't be surprised if a few tears welled up here and there.

I'm not one bit surprised that you have a large group of sweet supportive friends. To have a friend, you have to BE a friend, and you are just that type of girl.

I know what loneliness is all about but you did the right thing by inviting friends around. It's natural that you're going to feel this way but there is light at the end of the tunnel.

One thing you cannot do is isolate yourself. Force yourself to go out to eat at least once a week even if alone. Plenty of women dine alone on business trips etc. It's OK these days. I do it and enjoy it! Don't let HOB suck the life out of you! No way! Hugs my friend.

Teachers are the salt of the earth. What does that even mean? I know that to be the salt of the earth is a very good thing, though, and that is what I meant. Does salt make plants grow better? You are a teacher, Betty, so teach me!

KleinsteMotte said...

You are so right about being fortunate. Teachers are a very considerate group in general and seems your bunch is extra special. Blessed you are.
Do you ever consider gtalk or skypeing or chat? that would add bait of chatter and bloggers could reach you that way.
