What Was The Theme of Your Summer?

We teachers trudge back to campus today for meetings.

Alas, could it be that summer is behind us?

Noooooooo!

My eyes burn just considering that possibility.

Fetch Betty a Kleenex, pronto.

I believe every summer should have a theme.

In the past, mine have included "Summer of Traveling," "Summer of Service," and "Summer of Health."

This year it was "Summer of Home Improvement."

First, we got a new roof. (Evan and Dan playing on the roof mid-job.)

We also got the house painted and installed new doo-dads on the front porch.

Warning: These next few pictures are devastatingly exciting.

Try to control yourselves.

New Light

New Mailbox

New Door Handles.

HOB and I installed these items together.

There were power tools involved and everything.

Sooooooo. What was the theme of YOUR summer?

Mine was a summer of revisions and relief!
Is that the roof normally covered in crows?

My summer was the summer of never ending waiting. Waiting for my son and his wife to transfer closer to home.

Ours was a dog's nose: cold and wet.

I feel your pain sweet Betty! Summer is slipping through our fingers and I can not figure out how to save it.

But alas, I feel this was my "summer of short", short on time, short on holidays, short on rest, short on good weather, short short short...

But look how lovely all your home improvements look!

Enjoy your meetings!!! Blah....

My summer was the summer of heat. We've now been 48 consecutive days over 96 degrees with no rain at all for several months.

BTW- I am a teacher in a year round school and we started back a month ago. Hope your first day back goes well!

Well, I find those photos very exciting. I love the new look. Well done, Mr. and Mrs. (ahem) Betty.

My summer, I haven't decided what it is or was. Still living through it... :)

Well, yesterday, my BFF and I decided it was The Summer That Wasn't. It certainly wasn't what we want from summer. It was a hot, buggy summer and just recently it peaked it's head up for awhile in the form of some decent weather. Frankly, I'm looking forward to fall.

Concerning the outside accoutrements: By the time I got down to those double handles I'd almost wet myself. Too much excitement. All that and power tools!

Great that you got all those projects done. I'm afraid I'd have to call mine the summer of cancer. Hubby started having chemo treatments every other week and they will continue til December!

Parsley said...

Gotta love seeing projects finished but yes, summer break is over and school is back in session. ugh

Our summer could be titled 'dog days' because of all the dog-sitting.

My Theme? Oh crap, I didn't know I was supposed to have a theme.

:::frantically sorting through memories:::

Ah.

The summer of TRYING TO KEEP UP.

Love the new doo-dads! They look fabulous! The theme of this summer for me is "Summer of Keep-my-first-child-in-me (no matter how much she wants to come out early)". Glad to see you are still doing well! :)

I go back to work next week (Mrs. Penwasser is not shedding any tears for me, though). The theme of the summer getting ready to come to a close:
"What the 'F'???? Where'd All the Time Go???"

You got a lot accomplished, Betty!
I think I'm with Ami on my theme...

Our summer theme was Stupid Hot!

Betts, you make even boring pix look cool. My summer has been the Summer of the Letter M: Moving, Marriage, Mayhem! Moved into a new house, got married and have a pool which is daily populated by my stepkids and their mayhem-inducing friends. All good though, all good!

Summer of Sweat. Yes, we had that wonderful trip to Europe...during a remarkable heat wave. Lots of sun, loads of walking, tons of laundry. Totally worth it all. So maybe Summer of Happy Sweating?

OH! That light! Omigosh, I just...can't believe....and then the door handles on top of that...

How dare you load all that excitement into one post? I think I need my smelling salts.

Your home additions are quite spiffy.

My theme has been one that seems to have been wrapped around helping my daughters deal with loss. It has not been a fun summer, but I think some essential healing has taken place for us all. Now, we hope to move into fall from a stronger place.

Summer of grandbaby anticipation!

About your new door handles -(to be read as the alien squeeze toys in Toy Story:) "Ooooooooooooooh!"

Assuming you installed those doodads together with HOB prior to your anniversary, I am impressed that you were still able to HAVE an anniversary!

Theme: Summer of Playing-Catch-Up.

Ooooo! Doodads! How awesome! :D

Mine was the "Summer of thank goodness summer is finally here, I want it to last forever, I thought winter was NEVER going to go away!" haha!

I like the new hardware you chose. Good for you for taking advantage of the season and getting things done. It's nice to shorten your to-do list!

The theme of my summer was "Heat" and all the ways to avoid it. I won't be the least bit sorry to find a new theme.

Actually, the photo of the light fixture is eyebrow raising. Very nice.

For once it wasn't a summer of remodeling. :) For my husband it was working the walnut orchard, while for me it was shopping my first historical YA. And, oh yes, lots of kitty fur following lots of pet-me/play-with-me love fests.

Those items were very exciting, I think. Glad you has such a busy time. Our summer theme was to stay as cool as possible and that was really hard to do sometimes. Glad you had such a productive one. Take care.

Ooooooo... I love your doo-dads! ALL of them! And what a wonderful way to reflect on the past few months . . . A summer theme! Brilliant, Betty.

My summer theme? Augh. (Is that an appropriate theme? I think not.) Ok, really . . . "summer of change" or "summer of Art" are what I would like to remember this summer for. Maybe "summer of time" . . . Ooooooo, yes. I like that last one.

Love home improvement stuff getting done! It always makes me happy....even when it's not my house getting improved upon.

My summer? I'd have to say it was a Summer of Discontent with a dash of Will It Ever End on the side.

VM Sehy Photography said...

I'm hoping my summer theme will end like yours - home improvement. We have to get some hail damage fixed. So should be a new roof and new siding before too long. If I had to sum up the summer with stuff that has actually happened, I'd say yard work. I think I've done more weeding and tree trimming in the last three months than I've done in my lifetime.

PS - I have about one week of freedom left myself. I head back to my job as an aide at my son's elementary school. Can't believe how fast that summer went.

Those little added touches make a huge difference!

I got a new shitter. Does that count for anything?

Oh, and a new front door....and new shutters. :)

Taking a bloggy break for a week or two. Catch you when I resurface.

It's looking good! I refuse to label my summer because I'm in denial that it's coming to an end. I'll stamp my foot if I have to but I'll probably regret it as this has been the summer of a sprained ankle. Darn... I went and labeled it anyway.

karen said...

My summer? The summer of finding a new job - YESSS! I love what you've done to your place - don't you love changes on even the smallest details? Every time you use your doors, you'll appreciate those door handles. Question: Do you live in Summerland up by Santa Barbara? I LOVE it up there!

The summer of watering. Definitely. Your new house fixtures look awesome!!

Mine was a beat the heat summer. One has to eat lots of ice-cream and chocolate freezes to do so.

PS Did you let those two come down from the roof yet?

Oh, I can not believe that the summer is truly over... I recall when you were writing a post about going on your summer break.. Where does the time go?
Wonderful home improvement results.;) You must be proud.;)
As for my summer, I guess I can cal it "A summer of Change". That feels somewhat appropriate, considering how much my life has changed in the past few months.;) Then again, it could also be called the "Summer of Rain" as it has rained buckets and non stop.:(( It has been an awful summer weather wise.;)
Have a lovely weekend,
xoxo
