Poetry Tuesday: "Homage to My Hips" by Lucille Clifton

Homage to My Hips

these hips are big hips.
they need space to
move around in.
they don't fit into little
petty places. these hips
are free hips.
they don't like to be held back.
these hips have never been enslaved,
they go where they want to go
they do what they want to do.
these hips are mighty hips.
these hips are magic hips.
i have known them
to put a spell on a man and
spin him like a top

LOL BB
Years ago I was walking by a Mercedes Benz when my hip barely touched it setting off the car alarm. My husband said I had alarming hips. Great poem.

Hip Hip hooray for this verse,

My hips are bigger than I like them to be, I weighed today .....lost 1lb. still it's better than gaining.

Love love love Lucille. It reminds me of a Whoopi joke I could relate to, she said she kept turning around thinking someone was following her, and it was just her butt.

Great poem, empowering even.

Thanks, BB.

Hahahaha. This was awesome. My hips actually come in handy at work, so I accepted them a long time ago. :)

If hips were a measure of greatness, you can bet I'd be great!

I'm proud of my mama hips! Even if they do reflect some cheesecake (and other such delicacies) in their shape. :)

Hubs once told me I had good breeding hips. He was an agriculture major in college, and apparently for those of the bovine ilk, that is a high compliment. I was not a-moo-sed.

I wouldn't mind having less hips but they did carry four wonderful children around for months.

Oh, I so agree, hips are what makes a woman a woman.;) A beuatiful part of the female body.;) So lets be proud of them instead of hiding them.;))
