Fair Day with Lori!

I LOVE our county fair!

Yesterday I went with my friend, Lori.

As you can see, she ate many vertical foods.

She started the day with a deep fat fried potato swirl.

Next it was a swirled cone.

Then it was time for roasted corn.

Before she got done with one kind of corn, she had to buy another.

That's a giant bag of kettle corn she is lovingly cradling in her left arm.

On the way out, I urged her to get a corn dog, just to make her day at the fair complete. She said no. I guess after all the vegetables, dairy and whole grains she had throughout the day, she just couldn't bring herself to eat any junk food.

Are you going to the fair this year?

OOH, that corn looks good! And I plan on it, going to the fair that is. Hillbillies with vertical food, how could I pass that up?! :)

That fair looks so different from the one that I've been to, but it was nice to see a similar spirit there too.

I've missed out on the Durga Pujo (which is the closest thing we have to a fair like this where I come from) last year, since I wasn't in town for it. This year, I hope it'll be worth the wait... now I'm looking forward to it even more!

Cheers,
Joy...

Oh! I soooo want a potato swirl. I've never heard tell of such until now.

Darn it! No. :( I love the fair! We used to go to the Wisconsin fair and they had fresh creme puffs!! YUM. Rats, now I'm gonna be thinking of those ALL day. Thanks, Betty.

Deep fried (fill in the blank) on a stick -- totally great fair food! ;)

And the first thing I'll have is a corn dog. :)

Never had a potato swirl at the fair, but I have had deep-fried 'gater. Tastes like chicken. Really.

Looks like fun to me.

It was probably a good idea to steer away from junk food. Just stay with the healthy stuff. Right? LOL If that food really was healthy, all of America would be eating healthy every day!

No fair for me. I don't enjoy them that much. But our fair is more like a carnival and I think that's why I don't care for it.

HA! Looks like a great time. I've never seen the swirly potato things on a stick before. My favorite is those giant cinnamon sugar elephant ears. :D

Oh Yum! We didn't go to our county fair this year, but one of my favorite fair foods is funnel cake!

We went last year, not sure we'll go again.

Here's my post from last year if you want to peek. =)

Our state fair features things like fried butter and fried Dr Pepper. I just can't bring myself to go there (culinary-wise).

Look at all that food!

We have a big fair about 40 minutes from here in Topsfield, but we've never gone. I think it's $20 a ticket, so it always seems too expensive. Maybe this year. After seeing your pictures, I want to go.

I dont think we have one here, too big of a city to do such a small community activity.

"horizontal foods"? hold that ice cream cone horizontally and it will end up on the ground...
Proud to say I haven't been to the / a fair since 1976. And then it was just to attend a motorcycle race. Looks like y'all had fun, assuming poor Lori's gastrointestinal system survived, and thats the point. That fried potatoe thingie does look sorta interesting though...

I love the fair! :) We usually go for the Demolition Derby as it is my favorite event, that or the tractor pull (which would be one of Ryan's favorites) -and I will admit, my guilty pleasure is a funnel cake. However, the downside - I can't eat the whole thing! Grr - so $6 later, and I've eaten $3 worth - oh well, only money right?! haha

Ahhhh, the smell of fried onions and cotton candy! (separately, of course)

Fried dough....I want fried dough!

What!? No fried dough? We're hoping to go to the SC state fair (no county fair in the city), and you can believe I'll be getting me some funnel cake or something! And a corn dog. Hmph.

Hmm - that looks like the OC Fair.. I was there last Friday afternoon - enjoying the $2 ride special for my teens and eating the $2 specials - fried oreos - yummy.. tried the fried cheese cake - too big but yummy - brought a bag of Kettle corn home. I'm thinking I just might have to start my diet.. ha

Nice shots. The kinds of food you can get at the fair are mind boggling. When I was growing up, it was cotton candy, snow cones and corn dogs.

We went to our fair earlier this year, and now I'm bummed out because I didn't see those potato swirls anywhere. I'll keep my eyes open next year.

O.M.G., BB - what could be better than vertical foods?!

I introduced the girls to fried dill pickle slices yesterday. Kate loved them but Maddie? not so much.

No junk food, huh?
I could go for that potato swirl.

That potato swirl looks YUMMY, and it would have gone great with a corn dog! (Back home, we called those "pogo dogs").

I hope we get to a county fair this year. I LOVE the food choices!

Everything looks delicious, especially the corn! Oh, yum. Sure glad the photos are calorie free!

the fare at the fair is always the best part.
Ours is still a month away.

The junk food is part of the reason I go to the fair, flea market or amusement park.

I wish I was eating vertical foods right now.

I wonder, does she (Lori) eat like this every day?

Oh yes, this brings back recollection of NC county fair, that we use to visit autumn.;) Fairs are not as common here, so I just enjoy your images.
Love that potato swirl.;))

I love your outlook on food. :) I need me some vertical dairy food...hmmm, I shall have to go find a solution to that. Boyfriend and I went to our city fair, but just to get the strawberries and cream. They are to die for!!

Now that the heat has gone a fair in our area will be fun. Glad you enjoyed yours.

That was so darn funny! I'm probably not going to my county fair this year. I wish it would get over with, so the weekly swapmeet could comeback...
