Button, Button, Who Has The Button?

My mom had a button collection and I recall playing with it for hours.

I still have a big pile of buttons around the house, just to look at and play with.

Naturally, that means tormenting the cats just a little....

Zelda is not amused....

Speaking of not being amused--the vet actually told us that Mabel was overweight.

She is currently on a diet and is not amused.

Wish us ALL luck on this one!

Happy Saturdays to you all!

Hey Betty! My mom had the same thing! A glass jar of buttons and I loved looking at and playing with them, too. We also played Button, Button, Who's Got the Button. Wow...kids now days would think that is SO LAME! :D

oh yeah, I remember the button jar. I used to love going through it and seeing what I could find.
Good luck with Mabel's diet. She should have told the vet that she wasn't overweight she was just fluffy

Mabel, you tell those silly people that you aren't over weight, there is just more to love. You do look just a tiny bit wide but some of us are the same.
Love all the buttons. Bet the kitties would like to bat them around. Take care.

Oh, the mom button collection. I remember it well.

Best of luck with Mabel. It never pleasant when the cat is upset.

Seems like everyones mom had a button collection including mine but she did sew and use them for many a project.
Mabel is fat but cute, think it might be easier to live with her fat than on a diet. Good luck!

Did Mabel tell the vet she's not heavy, she's your kitty?

I love buttons too and have many and remember my grandmother's button collection as well.

As a cat mom who helped her baby lose 12 lbs (30 lbs down to 18 lbs) I understand what you are going through. Good luck!

I have a mason jar full of buttons. I keep thinking I'll "do" something with them...

But what?!

I think Mabel may just embrace the new diet. She certainly looks calm!

Mabel's a roly poly cutie. Good luck with her diet.

I loved buttons as a child. I recall the sizes, colors, and shapes.

My Mom always had a button jar too, and now I have one as well. I liked sorting them by color and such when I was little. Best of luck with poor Mabel and her diet. Happy Saturday to you, Betty! :D

Mabel obviously has the button.

Mabel has a lot of them.

She keeps them hidden, underneath her fur.

I loved my Mom's button jar. I also use to string all the different sizes and shapes to make me necklaces and bracelets. I need to make some for my husband's granddaughters before they get too old for homemade trinkets. THANKS FOR THE REMINDER.

Um, Betty, you didn't need the vet to tell you that. Did you?

Happy Saturday!

No, it's not funny Mabel, me too, diets are no fun! I could have fun with all those buttons though!

Ooh Betty, if you ever get fed up of looking at them or harassing the cats with them :-) just send them my way - LOVE old buttons for my creative work. And as for Zelda, she is not alone. We've got a similar message from the vet and not amused doesn't even begin to describe the dismay!
Have a lovely weekend!

This post just reminded me of a tub full of buttons my mom had in her sewing basket when I was a kid. I completely forgot about it until your post. I played with those buttons for hours some days as a kid. There were very unique buttons. I wonder whatever happened to them? Thanks for bringing back a great memory!!

Oh yes, the button jar...we never EVER had to buy buttons...one could always be found in the button jar.

To Mabel: I so understand your troubles, darling. What the vet doesn't seem to realize is that you aren't fat...you're merely not long enough for your weight. I have the same condition...according to the charts, I should be 9 feet and 5 inches tall.

What is it about buttons that we love so much? I am jealous of that button collection!

And Mabel doesn't look overweight. I think she may be getting her winter coat. :)

My mom always had a button collection, too; and I also remember playing with them and trying to find sets that matched. Memories. You're good at provoking them. :)

My mom kept here buttons in an old tobacco can.

Does Mabel have any diet tips she could share

Ooh, a kitty on a diet. NOT FUN! Good luck with that--truly.

The button box kept by my mother and grandmother was an endless source of fascination. Thanks for the memories.
Have a great weekend!

My Mom had a huge jar filled with buttons and there was just something about how they felt in my hands ...It was so appealing! Love your cats!

Why is it that anything and everything is fun to harass a cat with? Thanks for the laugh!

I say you can't beat buttons and kittehs for post material!

We have a similarly floofy cat who is an emotional eater. She gets even more emotional when she is put on a diet. Bleh.

My grandmother had a ton of buttons in her sewing kit. I wish I had my own collection. I keep thinking of all the crafts I could use them with.
Wishing you guys luck with Mabel's diet!

Errr...your kitty IS rather ...hmmm....fluffy. Yeah, that's it.

Speaking of fluffy...I enjoyed a trip to a local county fair today. It's all your fault that I now weight 14 pounds more than when I left the house this morning.

My mother had a tin full of buttons but our favorite button collection belonged to my grandmother. There were so many unique, really cool metal buttons.

I have always kept several button jars. I love buttons. When my 12 year-old granddaughter was about 4 she said, "When I grow up I'm going to be a doctor or a (pause) button collector like you Memaw."

I love buttons...they're so fun. :) Good luck with your cat!! Diets aren't fun for anyone that has to deal with them...

I inherited my grandmother's button collection and have added to it over the years. And now my kids think it is as cool as I did when I was little.

My grandmother had buttons at her house. I'm 33, and I still play with the buttons every time I visit her.

OHG ... Mabel looks exactly like my Kramer who is 23 pounds ... a tubby .... but no diet for him ... at the old age of 14, he gets quite grumpy with food withheld!

Tell Mabel to tell that vet she's not overweight... she's just undertall.

When I was a child I loved playing with my mom's button collection, kept in a huge chocolate tin... I'd sort them into colours into the cups of cardboard egg cartons. Hours and hours of entertainment in the days before daytime TV and computer games :-)
Good luck to Mabel on her weight loss programme!

My mom didn't have a button collection. In fact, my mother hated anything to do with sewing and only did it when absolutely forced to.
I've always had a jar of buttons. Last year collected more buttons and started making a button string garland for my Christmas tree. I didn't finish last year and I'm sure I'll wait till November to finish it this year. That's just how I roll.
And...a cat on a diet. Not fun.

Jenny said...

A cat on a diet sounds almost as a bad as a weiner dog on a diet!

Hope it works!

And your buttons are beautiful.

My mom too had a big old tin of buttons when I was a kid and I loved those things, especially the fancy ones shaped like little boats or something. I still remember how they sounded and smelled and the big ex-baby food formula tin she kept them in. Crazy. :)

Pat Tillett said...

The photos of old buttons look okay, but touching them is another matter. The feel of them kind of creeps me out.

Putting a cat on a diet means all cats in the house have to go on a diet? I'm thinking Mabel has big bones...

My family gave me my Gramma's button collection when she passed away, and it's one of my most favorite things ♥
