You Think Your IT Department Is Slow?

I know I promised you more dazzling insights from my road trip, but I thought I'd share this e-mail I got from my work earlier this week.

Note when I requested the service and when it was completed.

Your work order has been completed. Do not reply to this email. Please contact the technician directly for follow-up. Work order details:

Hummm... A year and a half. Note that it was "Normal Priority." Wonder what it would have been had it been "Low Priority"?

To be fair, our IT department is usually really good. However, I think that ID number is actually code for "Blond Nutjob Called Again."

Loved reading it Betty, I have been trying to get some joy at Amazon, They had some of my books for sale and neither of my emails match what they have on my account, All they say iss put the right email and change your password, they owe me money yet I can't geven get through to them.
Is this progress?????

That's slow! Frustrating, huh...

Thanks for the giggle! Hope your 'puter is up and running when you return to school. ☺ Happy Thursday!

I love to call IT because you can just hear them rolling their eyes on the other end of the line. While I can do a few things on the computer, I don't know the lingo and so it's like talking to an idiot when they talk to me. (snicker)

Hmm, I hope that's not IT's speed record.

Blond nut job....LOL!!!

IT is a necessary evil. At my school it seems we occasionally get a "normal" person and they are awesome, helpful, and leave too soon. Then we are back to the IT gods and goddesses (in their minds).

LOL Betty
I think Daniel might have taken a job at same IT service I called back in April while trying to uninstall my work virus protection program after I retired. The program was required on all home computers in case we worked from home...but when it came time to uninstall they didn't have a clue how to do it!! His name was Daniel too

So if it's high priority, they'll get to it in under a year? scary.

Lol. Frustrating, yet common. That's kinda sad!

Brian Miller said...

whew...now that is cutomer service...ugh

Well, in IT's favor, the problem wasn't described very specifically. Maybe if you had put something fascinating in there..."ants nesting in computer," "disk drive dispensing $20 bills," "dancing disco hamster virus"...they would have come straight out, just to see for themselves.

blueviolet said...

Yeah, that's a pretty long term situation right there.

Let's just hope that after all that time, the job was done correctly!

Hubs is my IT department and, while he is slow as molasses on everything else, he's pretty quick if my computer has a glitch. He likes to avoid my bad moods. LOL

I think we need to get "Daniel" from the IT department in a private room with blogging women and give him some new found religion!

Glad to know your issue is handled...

Hugs~

Maybe they are too busy helping Blogger with their problems!

jenny_o said...

Wow. That is singularly unspeedy.

I do hope the "couple of problems" are at least fixed.

That's got to be a record! Too funny BB.

My husband almost kept one person fully employed with his computer problems. He is a lover but a bit dyslexic when it comes to computers!

Talli Roland said...

Haha! What were they doing for that year and a half? I'd like to know...

Don said...

Pretty funny... kind of like "your phone call is important to us".

What I love about my job is the one-person IT department in my building with a direct line and a great relationship with the Big IT Department.

Good luck, Betty, for the next school year!

Sure glad it wasn't low priority. That really is a little bit slow. Hope they fixed it. Too funny. Take care.

Since my son is my IT guy, I know all about slow. Seems he has a life! I can't imagine a work related issue taking this long. Bless you!

Daisy said...

Oh my word! Next time I think you better tell them that it is HIGH priority because you are Betty and that's just the way it should be! :-)

Maybe my eyes just jumped over the part that said, "Problem Solved Successfully." All I saw was "Your Work Order Has Been Completed" and "System Closed." I hope they actually did something and didn't just decide to close an old order because Blond Nut-Job hadn't been bugging them about it recently. :)

Is this like the IT dept.'s version of Cold Case

Perhaps the wrong year was entered? I hope so. :)

At least they know stuff, my IT guy doesnt even know what a AZERTY keyboard is.

Gigi said...

HA!! Maybe I shouldn't complain about our IT department so much after all....even though I am POSITIVE that when they see my name pop up on the phone/computer screen they are telling each other, "I'm not taking this one; YOU take it!"

I have to wonder, do you even remember what the issue was after all this time? Or did you just find a work-around?

Chuck said...

It is amazing that in a world of superfast computing the addressing of issues involving that superfast computing can be maddenly s l o w.

Great post for the work force!

lisleman said...

I'll bet money that you don't remember what those problems were.
Having done troubleshooting I appreciate that it's not easy but one must START at some point.

I hope that your IT people don't read your blog, or you'll never be back on-line at work. It is pretty outrageous though. I waited on hold with my cable company for 1 hour and 22 minutes last month before finally hanging up (I had the phone on speaker while I did other things, in case you were wondering...)

Kristina said...

WOW - that is ridiculous! I cannot believe it took 2 days shy of a year!

Ella said...

I love your view; quite the code~ It does make one wonder, what is going on in that department?!

Marlene said...

Methinks they know your sense of humor and just knew you'd get a chuckle out of this one. No? Ok, let me try again.

SueAnn said...

Oh this is too funny!! I do wonder what the code stood for! "Blond nut job"....Ha!!
