Poetry Tuesday: "The Flight" by Sara Teasdale

The Flight

Look back with longing eyes and know that I will follow,
Lift me up in your love as a light wind lifts a swallow,
Let our flight be far in sun or windy rain--
But what if I heard my first love calling me again?

Hold me on your heart as the brave sea holds the foam,
Take me far away to the hills that hide your home;
Peace shall thatch the roof and love shall latch the door--

But what if I heard my first love calling me once more?

Great pic, and that poem is so evocative of longing.

BB what an excellent picture and poem. It reminds me of the saying,
'if you love something let it go, if it was yours it will return"...or something similar.

I love how this poem made me do a sort of double-take...at first read I thought, "What a lovely poem." But then, I read it again and realized there is some deeper meaning there...good for some Tuesday thinking!

Wow, what a photo and what a post. We have so many interesting sea birds, crows and vultures down here in Florida. It's unreal.

Love is never simple or easy is it really?!?! Brilliant poem - profound and tormented! Thank you BB! Take care

No offense, but if I heard my first love calling me, I would run and hide.

Cool photo, did you take it yourself? Excellent angle. The poem was probably good too but I was focused on the picture, really liked it.

That's beautiful! (And truth be told, I had fond memories of my first love for the longest time until I finally saw what happened to him a few years ago. I lost that loving feeling instantly.)

Ha!

Would she, should she return to her first love? Interesting poem.

WOW, that was deep. Sounds like someone lost something they did not mean to lose. And that bird looks like it is on a bombing mission :)

This is a very sweet poem with a tinge of tension. I like it.
Did you take that photo, Betty? It's so good. Looks like the bird stopped mid-flight to pose.
