The Shopping Hat

It's tough being a visionary.
I unleashed this idea about a year and a half ago and I have yet to see this product in the stores. I post this again, hoping that in this busy shopping season, the recognition of my genius will finally be realized.

Shopping with friends is fun, but occasionally you may go shopping with a friend who is a bit (how shall I say it?) vertically-challenged. Worse than just a vertically-challenged shopping friend is the vertically-challenged shopping friend who likes to wander off in the store.

I have a friend like that. I can't tell you how many times we have been clothes shopping and when it is time to make that vital decision about a green spandex body suit, or a thong bikini that I have tried on, she's nowhere to be found.

In larger stores, I'll need to have a long discussion about the different hair conditioners I have used over the years (I keep a chart in my purse) or have an extended conversation about the advantages and disadvantages of purchasing paper towels in large bundle packs. However, I look around and she's gone and because of her, shall we say "little" problem, I can't quickly and easily locate her in the store.

Plus her phone never works in stores. It's really weird.

Anyway, I decided to help her out and so for her recent birthday I created "The Shopping Hat." All she has to do is slip this hat on while we are shopping and I can instantly locate her among the racks and shelves. I just follow the moving feather/flower/flag.

The hat came out beautifully and I know my friend is just thrilled. Unfortunately, she's been unusually busy so we have not been able to go shopping together since she received the hat. I am thinking about making myself a hat just like it so that when we do go out shopping, people automatically know we are together.

Think about it: soon stores may just have stacks of Shopping Hats at the door for people of all sizes to use.

I plan to go into mass production this summer, so get your orders in now and beat the rush!

Betty,
I'm not one to burst the bubble of any creative soul, but are you certain it's that your friend is just "too busy" to go shopping with you?
...just saying!

Like those little orange styrofoam balls that gas stations used to give away. :-) You put it on your car antenna so you can find your car (and all the other little cars with the orange balls on the antennas!) in a crowded parking lot!

Too funny! My mom was always bad about walking as far away from the dressing room as she could when she and I used to shop!!

I just laughed so hard because this is my husband and me when we go shopping. I try to stick with him, but he's so slow and he has to stand and read the labels on everything...I on the other hand, suddenly develop ADD when I go shopping. We need those hats!

I'll take two.
It goes without saying that I need one of those things! Funny Man and I always get separated while shopping and we end up having to phone one another in order to regroup. When he can't get a hold of me he asks the clerks, "Have you seen this really beautiful redhead? She's about yea high (as he holds his palm next to his waist)." - G

OMG, this is so funny I have to cover my mouth for fear I'll spew my tea.
I'm only 5'2" so I kind of need this.

Fantastic idea! I think I'll order one for my dad and tell him it's a Traveling Hat. He has a tendency to wander off when we go places. We've lost him numerous times while on vacation in cathedrals, subways, museums, etc...

Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. My can count is going up!

Much as I love your idea, BB, I'm one of those people what don't care to be found.

Funny, yet practical.

Of course, one day I was in a local bargain outlet with my wife and most of her family, we had all arrived separately - go figure. anyway, the lot of them were constantly calling each other on their cell phones from inside the store.

I didn't know whether to laugh or run screaming from the place.

Are you sure she's not pretending she's busy just to avoid wearing that hat? ;)

Now if you put on gloves that made your hands look like you have three fingers, it would be right out of Dr. Seuss.Love the look, I have a short friend I would love to put it on.

this is a great idea...it is my husband (not vertically challenged)who wanders off and cannot be found! Maybe something more masculine?

I am definitely interested- will look for financial backers. When my family goes shopping- we get separated-- the age old rule-- whistle a tune learned years ago! Only problem is, I cannot whistle. Despite knowing this, my family continues to whistle expecting me to suddenly become whistle proficient. Yes, I do get cranky when this happens!

HA HA HA! You are indeed a genius, dear Betty. I wish you much success with this marvelous idea. :D

Have a great weekend!

Being one that is vertically challenged - I have a feeling I know what my family and friends will be getting me this year!

Brilliant, Betty! Simply brilliant.

Argh! I used to be up between 4:00 and 4:05 A.M. all the time. Hopefully I won't need service assistance, because I will *not* let the short "hours" deter me. My Nancy (who is short in the poop, as her husband would tell her... I have no idea what that means, but she's not tall) MUST have one. Well, several, really. She coordinates enough for both of us, which is good since I just wear black.

Let me tell you, that those would be a big hit with us felines!

Love it !! But sadly I am not a
hat person.. I do wannabee , but
I have super thick hair and a
huge head that just doesn't work
with a hat....

As someone with a little problem, I just can't, won't, uh, I'm just too busy to shop with you Betty. Sorry. xo

Ann said...

Hey I would buy that for my sister in law. After our last shopping trip together I swore I would never go with her again. With one of these hats though it would be possible to convince me to go with her.

Love the idea of a shopping hat! I have a friend who constantly wanders off as well. Drives me batty!! And she too is vertically challenged!
Using the tall feathers is genius!

LOL!!! Maybe if you don't like hats you can achieve the same results with a head band. Seems they're back in fashion. Any goody that stands up could be glued on. Maybe Martha Stewart has some tips??

Theresa Milstein said...

I LOVE the shopping hat! At 5' 3", I may need one myself. And think of the possibilities. I could use them on my daughter so she'd be easier to see in a crowd.

You are a genius! You should sell stock in this company!

gaelikaa said...

Wow! This is the idea that's gonna make you rich and even more famous than you already are.

You should sell it on eBay. And there's the obligatory blog giveaway, don't forget!

CherylK said...

As a vertically challenged person, myself, I was especially interested in this post. However, I, too, am very, very busy and won't be available for shopping any time soon. *wink*

Hearty congratulations on your POTW designation!!! Certainly a worthy choice.
