Weekend Update

Happy Monday to you all!

Hope you had a fine Halloween and, more importantly, have leftover Halloween candy to munch on for breakfast.

Since it's nearly time for Evan to apply to college, this weekend, HOB and I took Evan around to see some campuses around southern California.

In my book, any college that has a duck pond is worthy of an application.

This building at Cal Poly Pomona was very cool.

CSU at Long Beach had a cool fountain.

Nice buildings too!

I kept looking around for Mother-Friendly housing nearby....
not that I'm having trouble letting go or anything....

I'll be back on flower delivery next week.

Hope you have a great Monday! It's November! Are YOU ready?

Happy Monday, Betty! Lovely duck pictures! Good luck to your son with the college search. My older son is in the process of trying to choose a graduate college for next year. He wants to go to one in Florida which seems like a very long way away from where we live in Ohio. Yes, I'm having trouble with this one too. I try to console myself by saying that at least he hasn't decided to join the military like the sons of some of my friends. Who knows where he might be if he did that. I hope you enjoy your week. :)

Well, I'm ready for November, though November in your part of the world looks suspiciously like my May. 35 degrees this am. Chilly.

That first building is pretty out there.

College... ugh. I have to get my younger out of preschool first. Actually, I have to get him dressed for preschool right now. Yikes. Gotta go.

I think I am ready for November but am hoping it brings nice weather with it. I think I need to move to Southern California. Look at the terrific weather!!!

And a school with ducks would be high on the list. :)

Happy November Betty!

ah the college visits, so glad that is behind me now. Good luck finding that parent friendly one. Here they all give you the same speech: 'They're 18 now and because of HIPA laws, they can't tell you anything about your child.' Which is ironic since they'll send me a bill if they are late paying something :o/

Love the new header. :o) We have no candy...alas, LittleGirl was sick with a stomach bug. Son#1 decided he was too big to dress-up, and Son#2 follows whatever Son#1 does.

Great snaps of the campuses. I'm glad I have a few years before I have to worry about that. Happy Monday! :o)

I'm ready Betty!!!

And I agree with you; any college that has a duck pond can't be bad. Good luck to you guys in your shopping around.

Did you take that turtle picture?!?! That's hysterical! Like a barber shop quarter those guys!

You still never know what you are getting into until you are there. My 1st day moving in the dorms, my dad comes in with a box. He has a huge smile and explained he had to show a kid how to operate the elevator.A knock at the door, and there the kid was, my roomate. His dad had worked the other one he had ridden on once.As with the pond, when spring came it was hard to get away from, more getting away from the lips of a sweetheart at the pond. LOL

Happy Monday, Betty!! I felt the same way when my older 2 boys went 'away' to college. My oldest went to LA Tech... and I still lived in Nebraska. Oh so hard... :-) But he came back for Grad school ... and gave me custody of his dog for the past 3 years. At least he came to visit her on the weekends and we got to see him too. lol

Have a Great week!

Hug,
Coreen

Let's have some terrapin loving!! Yay!! Love your new header!!!!

Awww BB!! I think mother-friendly housing should be standard!!! And they should all come with fountains and a duck pond!!! With ducks!!

That Cal Poly Pomona building is AMAZING!! I pick that one! :-)

Have a lovely Monday and well done Evan!! Take care

You might as well walk around with a blindfold on because ultimately, those darn kids just wanna go where THEY wanna go. I loved a particular college that Colin looked at. It had old buildings and a super cool small campus. They won me over with the bagpipe band that escorted the football team into the field. Pipers got tuition FREE to this small private school.

Did he chose that one? NOPE. Sigh.

I think the turtles are cool too! Good luck with the moving thing!

Ready for November? Probably not. That is a cool building. Duck ponds are one of the main things you want out of a college. Nothing encourages growth like a duck telling you to go inside and study and leave it some bread.

Fall always, always makes me think of ducks. Good luck with colleges!

I love your criteria for selecting the right college :-)

As my daughter is at preschool this morning I have been through her haul from last night and selected from it the treats I most like :-)

OK, now I am going to have to go and lie down for a moment, my stomach is churning at the thought of waving my daughter off to college and we have another fifteen years to go until then.

I think colleges could sell us on that housing space just for moms!

Love the turtle header. It's very Yertle the Turtle. We're big into Dr. Seuss these days.

Copyboy said...

Duck rule should be standard. If you're looking at campuses check out SUNY Fredonia – Designed by famous architect I.M. Pei.

Oh Betty you are following in my footsteps. Although yours seem to be firmly planted in CA. Mine will have to trek through the snow or tread upon cobblestones to keep up with my kiddos. Good luck with the apps...it is something I don't miss!!!

Good luck on that whole college trip. Good credentials...animals, natural elements and architecture.

Nice Pictures Betty, I am sure there is one with a Mom friendly zone, maybe right there looking at the ducks is just that place.

Great pictures. I'd say CSU -- can't beat that fountain!

I drove 7 hours each way for visits to my daughters in college. I definitely understand the wish for nearby mama housing! Good luck!

Great pictures... I am hoping for a mom friendly housing too as I have one graduating this year!! I really am not ready to let go!

Nat said...

Hey Betty! Thanks for the tour of campuses...hope your son gets a good one that's mom-friendly :)

Ann said...

Well I certainly agree that a duck pond would make any college more attractive. I think that basing ones educational choices on the number of photo opportunities for the mother is a very wise way to go.

A mom-friendly location is important!

Love the ducks.. the female has such a wonderful pattern. And the turtle header is just wonderful. Great shots.

Lost Internet this morning. Hope that's not an indication of how this month will be!

We're just a few years behind you and HOB on the whole emptynester thingy. I have such mixed emotions that I pretty much try not to think about it. Bad thing there is that it'll happen whether I am ready for it or not!

I think every college should have Mom friendly housing - maybe by the time that my kids get to college - they will have gotten that memo!!
