Sign Saturday

Happy Saturday! Hope your weekend is off to a good start.

Today's subject is signs.

Before we get to the visual portion of our program, we need to discuss politics. I would like your support on a proposition I hope to see on the ballet next time around.

Here's the gist of it:

Once the election results are in, the winners have ONE WEEK in which to remove ALL of the political signs they put up prior to the election. If even a single sign remains up after one week, the office is taken away and given to the runner-up, but only if that person has also removed all signs.

Are you with me on this, people?

Thanks for your support.

This is one of my favorite signs of all times. I start most conversations with these exact words. Yes, that is a plastic owl on the top. They do this a lot in California in the hope of scaring seagulls away. When HOB and I first moved to California and saw one of these, we thought it was a real one and actually threw pennies at it to try and get it to move. I am sure those around us were very entertained.

This is a sign that welcomes people in a nearby town just as they get off the freeway. Betty totally approves of this sign. (It's semi-bossy; don't you think?) I would probably add the words, "Damn it!" to the end, just to give it that Betty touch.

I have looked all over for some clean dirt to give to these people, but all the dirt around here is, well...pretty dirty.

Not only is it silver, but it's also alive!
Wow!

<That's HOB holding up a portion of the sign on the fence of the school that is near our house. Unfortunately, one of the zip ties came loose, resulting in this very sad result:

Here's what the sign looks like without HOB's help.

OH OH.

Thanks for stopping by and for all your very kind comments on my last post.
I love my blogging buddies.....

I think someone took that ziptye on purpose in that last picture, but I know it wouldn't have been you ;o)

I didn't know that about the owls in Cali. I lived in a few cities now I wonder how many owls I missed. :) I remember seeing them at a WalMart but I just thought that was store-related. :)

I love these kind of posts. I am always convinced that there must be similar signs that I pass in my day-to-day life, but I never notice them. So kudos to you for making me smile AND be so observant! (And by the way, I have no idea what the sign about the live silver things is trying to say.)

LOL! Thanks for the giggles this morning. :o) My favorite is the silver sign.

We have no need for plastic owls. We have an entire family (I have no idea what you call a group of owls...a flock, a gaggle?) that swoops down into our front yard every night in search of katydids, moles, and chipmunks. It's a treat to watch them in action! :o)

Happy Saturday, my bloggy friend! :o)

Too funny. I assume the 4th one is actually "Crappie." It looks like it's in front of a fish tank.

That last one is priceless!

And HOB leaves me scratching my head. He feeds the crows but throws pennies at owls. ;)

Those are some very fun signs Betty! I like the 'slow down' one the best.

That is too funny about the plastic owls. On day my girlfriend bought one to set on her deck and scare away the squirrels. The next morning she woke up to see the owl on it's side with a squirrel perched upon it's head.... I guess it didn't work. :)

Hope you have a beautiful Saturday friend!

love this post, do more, do more! that hi!let's eat sign is the absolute best. which reminds me I haven't had breakfast yet...

Joann Mannix said...

I snorted, actually snorted at the last two. I love that, "Hi! Let's Eat" sign. It's got such a cool, vintage look to it.

Here in Florida, we use the owls, too. We always stop and laugh at the tourists taking pictures all excited because they think it's an actual owl.

I was just in Chicago this past week and took a picture of a sign on a store door that said, "Push Hard" because clearly I am a 12 year old boy.

The Chicken's Consigliere said...

The first one is my favorite. Maybe I'm hungry, though. Maybe you could have t-shirts made up that say, "Betty say Relas.....Damn it"

I found all those pennies assuming they were from heaven, RATS.I laughed thinking of when I was down on the gulf I saw a female duck sitting in the seaweed. Getting closer shooting pics wildly I noticed she didn't move.It was a decoy.Wondered what airport security thought when they xrayed her in my luggage.Enjoy your other signs. I went through a park and someone must have been annoyed at all the "no" signs and took a marker and changed them to "know".Have a good weekend, I posted a barn story and pics with you in mind.

If ever you find clean dirt, I shall turn carnivore!

I love these signs!!! Thank you! But I think they all need the special BB touch of adding "Damn it!!" LOL!!

The signs that I want removed are the For Sale/ For Rent signs once the place in question is sold and/or rented. Last time I was invovled in a house purchase it took weeks and many many many phone calls to the estate agents to please remove their sold sign outside our home! LOL! Take care

I like the one about clean dirt. I guess it must be washed first. And I'm with you on that rule about political signs!

Leah J. Utas said...

I shall make it my mission to secure clean dirt for all those in need.

Great signs. I like the way you think.

Oh that poor school! So funny, so sad and so true! And I love the welcome home sign. It really is a good reminder after a long, hectic day. Maybe I'll print it out and tape it where I hand my coat and house keys. Have a great weekend! - G

I am so with you on the removal of the political signs.

I am praying for your mom. God Bless her and you.

Great post, Betty. The last one in particular made me LOL. I support your proposition 100%. Where do I "sign" up?

Kathie @ Just a Happy Housewife said...

Love that first sign!! The colors and text are great.

I love taking photos of signs! As usual, you inspire me, and when I post mine, I will give you credit as my mentor.
That sign about the school left behind is so cool!

I totally agree with your proposition!!! That would mean we would have NO POLITICIANS!! HA HA HA!!! LOVE IT!!!!

The last sign is kinda sad....

Wanted clean dirt, you know I've seen many ads for that, it must mean something :) Live silver crap is my favorite. Live or dead I love silver. Cool post.

I should have known to hold off reading this until the pain wears off a bit more. And then I really should have known not to look at that last picture. Guess I'm a glutton for punishment.

Thanks for the laughs *wipingthetears*

Ann said...

I am so with you on the campaign signs. What is the purpose of leaving them up?
Yep, I agree with whoever said that someone took the ziptie down on purpose.
I was thinking just the other day about doing a post about signs. I may have to copy you now if I ever get out and about other than to go to work.

I love all your signs!

And did I mention how much I love your new header? It looks like all the turtles are looking up and paying homage to your name!

floweringmama said...

Oh my, I loved the sign on the school fence. I just wonder how many rural school are left behind.

I agree with the political signs. I think they should be fined for not getting them cleaned up.

Lin said...

HAHAHAHA! I think that school sign should be on our local middle school! I know because my kid went there.

Those fake owls are everywhere here. My daughter actually thought they were real too. But she was like 5 at the time.

Flartus said...

LOL! Those are some excellent eyes you have there! I highly enjoyed this post. And as for your ballot initiative...here in Charlotte, there is actually a law on the books that says something that effect (though the punishment is merely dollars...I prefer yours, as it would promote those who have their shit together; an excellent quality in a public servent.) The problem here is enforcement.

Also, the election signs often get lost in the repetitive clutter of the ones for new housing developments. Don't GET me started on those!!

Brian Miller said...

hehe. those are some fun sign...if mine is ever silver i need to see a doctor...for real...

Jingle said...

how are you?
Thanks for the patience on me,
wow, what a long time without visiting.

you rock.
Happy November.
love your sign post.
reflective and smart.

Copyboy said...

Damn it! Dems some good signs. Is it me or does HOB have some well manicured hands?

Great pictures! You see the most interesting things through your viewfinder.

In Total Agreement about the election signs, and it holds just as true here in Canada as in your good old US of A.

The start of another great series...
the signs are perfect, but your
commentary is priceless..

Next time throw quarters instead
of pennies... Owls are smart ya know.!!

It'd be precious clean dirt, if any!!!

Thank you for an absolutely great laugh on a Sunday morning, ah, I am still laughing!;))

That last one is funny. You should send that to Jay Leno.

I think they have a law here in PA about removing the campaign signs. Must not be a very stiff penalty because they still linger around.

Lisa said...

I am so with you Betty! Love your idea...maybe we could call it the honesty test.

Your signs gave me a chuckle!

Oh BB what great signs you found!!

I think there should be a town ordinance that does NOT allow signs on public ground. Do what you want in your own yard, but nowhere else.

Betty, I must confess, my favorite pre Easter ritual is my self imposed "wreath police" duties. I wear bunny ears and hand out situations to homes still garnishing christmas decor a week before easter :) I have an ID card that I wear around my neck and a bunny badge. I even offer to help them take the wreath off their front door. Pumpkins get an extra situation, and a stern shaking of the finger. (no, not that finger)

Shrinky said...

That last sign is absolutely priceless - too, too funny! And yes, you get my vote on passing that bill - hey, maybe you should run for office, I'll second you!!

slommler said...

Most cities have an ordinance that states just that...must remove signs within 48 hours!!!
Last sign is so appropriate...especially nowadays. All schools are getting left behind.

I am bewildered by that "Live Silver Crap CA Chep" sign. I think one of my on-line suitors must've written that one.
Good thing HOBS was there to assure that no child is left behind. Is he still holding the sign up?

Oh-oh, really! I like that HOB makes your picture complete. :)

Liz said...

I love not only that you threw pennies at the owl, but that you'll admit to doing so now.

Yes, adding "damn it" to that sign would be rather perfect.

Velvet Over Steel said...

Those are all way too funny! I'm still laughing at your throwing pennies at the owl.. I so would have done that! :-)

Oh & I totally Agree with your proposal at the beginning. Yes, they should lose their office if their signs are not taken down. There will signs on the highway I take to town everyday.. for a year! No kidding!
Cute post! Loved it!
Have a Great week!!
Hugs,

I hate those stupid political signs. And they seem to get worse every year. It seems to be more of a battle of the signs than a battle of actual ideas.

Down with the signs! I 'll SIGN whatever you want me to.

Cricket said...

Heh, heh. I love these. They make me glad I had a busy weekend and couldn't visit BlogLand 'til this morning: a dreary Monday, rainy, with snow on the ground.

Live silver crap... brilliant.

Around here, the "clean dirt" people usually ask for "clean fill." Avoids confusion. My Dad used to say "dirt is anything where it doesn't belong; hair in your butter or butter in your hair."

Don't get me started on "our school is left behind."

The politicians around here are quite good about the signs. I saw a few, in person, removing their signs on Nov. 3. Even if there are a few strays, I give 'em an A for effort.

Susan Fields said...

Thank you for the laughs today, Betty! Clean dirt and live silver crap - classic!

Oh yeah, some great "grins" in those signs!
