Weekend Update and Monday Morning Flowers

The good news is the plumber showed up on time and I managed to control my urge to kiss him full on the lips out of gratitude and a new-found respect for his profession. He hooked up the vanity and did assorted other repairs that stopped a lot of leaking, seeping, and discharge from various fixtures around the house.

Picture a waiting room at the urologist before and after treatment, and I think you'll get the idea.

SO! We have an honest-to-goodness working vanity AND HOB and I went out and found a very nice, very complimentary mirror. (Tonight it said it liked my hair!!!) AND HOB and I managed to hang the mirror without bloodshed. This is good.

Now, maybe it was the smell of the drill as it went into the wallboard. Maybe it was the sight of plumber's putty oozing out from beneath the new faucets, or perhaps all that pent-up passion I felt when the plumber showed up at my door. All I know is that this weekend, I went into complete, super-sized, nut-job, maniacal, demented decorating/furniture arranging binge from which no one was safe.

Now HOB is a Helper Husband and he has very large muscles that could pass for canned hams, still in the cans. However, what I needed from him was a "Yes Ma'am" attitude and prompt use of those testosterone-injected muscles, NOT a line of questioning about every move of a large and bulky item. We moved A LOT of them this weekend and nearly every single move was proceeded by the following sort of conversation:

Betty (sweetly): "I need this moved from the bedroom to the TV Room."

HOB: "Which room is the TV Room?"

Betty (flatly, valiantly resisting sarcasm): "It's the one with the TV in it."

HOB: (stands back and furrows brow) Have you measured the space? I don't think this is going to fit.

Betty (fibbing just a little. I measured it with my incredibly accurate eyes, but not with the unwieldy measuring tape) "Yes. It will fit. Now, if you'll just lift it up...."

HOB (just standing there): "So you want this piece of furniture in the TV Room? And you've measured the space? I'm not even sure I can get it out of this room. Didn't we just move this not too long ago?"

Now, this is where I start to visit Crazy Town. I hate to say it, but at this point, I do not need his brain. I need the irritatingly-dormant muscles he has waiting there in his arms. I can't lift this piece of furniture. HE can. It's all so unfair. I just want to scream. AND I hate how the price to be paid for this service is (he will not admit this) some sort of subservient behavior on my part. I mean, I can only be nice for so long and then I just want the damned thing moved. No more chit-chat. No more Sweet Betty. However, if I am NOT nice, then he goes away and takes his canned hams with him.

Arrrggghhhhh.....

Now, the good news is that by working myself to a nub. driving all members of my house completely insane, and by running all over town, spending goo-gobs of money, I now have a lovely bedroom, complete with fake fireplace, new curtains, new bed, and all new bedding and working vanity too!

Little Betty. Happy at last.

OH! It's Monday so you have dropped by for flowers! Of course! I'll be glad to help!

Now, did you want flowers on THIS computer, or another one?

Did you measure your screen? Because I'm not sure these are going to fit....

Didn't I just give you flowers a couple of weeks ago?

Oh, OK.

Hope you have a wonderful week!

May all those you boss around respond promptly and without questioning.

So nice to have all done, next time perhaps use a liquid or snake to unclog that drain, the screwdriver was a bit drastic, they come apart at the trap. Of course the fix made it more interesting, I like the many uses of caulk and duct tape.Love your flowers, been trying to get a similar mum.Perhaps you will notice a 21 barn salute I did. LOL

Congrats on the fabulous finishes! I rearrange furniture all the time. Since DH can no longer lift, my boys provide the muscle. They're still young enough they don't question my motives. They just say, "Yes, Ma'am!" and move. Actually, I think they realize the faster they do it, the sooner they'll be able to return to their video games. ;o) Happy Monday! Larri at Seams Inspired

Oh my! That vanity looks so much better attached to the wall--who knew??! I think I have vanity envy now--we really need a new one in our bathroom but the cashola is lacking a bit.

Happy Decorating, Betty! And good luck motivating those around you. Why is it they hate that so much anyway???

LOL.... BB don't you just love an HOB with an attitude? What a long drawn out wait for a plumber but I know you were pleased as punch to see him. Seems lots of service people don't take to kindly to 'small jobs'.

Thank you for the lovely Monday flowers they fit perfectly on my screen.

Great to hear it's coming together. It looks great. Your conversation with HOB sounds like me and my hubs. Why can't they just listen?
Thanks for the flowers. :)

Well, I must say you got my Monday off on a good start as I could imagine this in action.I don't let my stuff stay too long in one spot I move it myself, no muscles here. That BR looks very nice,

Love the flowers.
It's so funny, I never really gave that whole "getting men to do your furniture moving bidding" until now. Life is unfair that way. But your species is way cuter and have a nicer smell. You guys got the better end of the bargain in my opinion. Oh, and congrats on the working vanity!!!

Wow...sounds like an energetic weekend, but at least the final result was worth all that effort (and suffering on Hob's part...all men are long suffering according to my hubby:))
Thanks for the flowers...happy Monday!

LOL. Who of us hasn't gone through that? The new vanity looks great! Did you get a new dresser for the clothes you had stacked on it?

Old Kitty said...

Awwww and of course you are BB who must under all circumstances without exception be obeyed without question - otherwise your lovely vanity WITH very acceptable and lovely mirror would not have happened. A happy BB is a happy household! :-)

Thank you for the beautiful amazing dazzling flowers!!! I feel normal again now that I've had my flowers on Monday from BB!
Take care

You have a vanity and complimentary mirror? Congratulations!

Just remember, you know which room is the TV room. That says a lot.

And you still need to feel better, my husband I ordered a couch, eyed the space, and when the delivery guys came, the couch wouldn't fit in the doorway. We'd both lied, saying we measured.

Our punishment was taking turns on the one chair for a month.

hahahaha! poor HOB. when will he learn? ;-)

Glad you vanity is finally in place and you found a wonderful mirror. Where did you find such a mirror? I'm ready to trade all mine in because they're all telling me that I need to lose weight!

I read your post with the biggest grin on my face! You certainly do make me laugh!

I HATE when my husband questions my every thought! Just DO IT!!

Now, this is at least the second time you have been tempted to kiss a handyman full on the lips...remind me to be very careful if I am ever contracted to clean your pool...

Fabulous, he he. I can picture it and "hear it" now. So glad you got the vanity fixed at last!

It must be the weather. We had the same conversations at my house. I was told that my attitude to moving furniture was aggressive. Sigh.

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Glad your bathroom is finally in order!
And what can I say? We like to measure things because we only want to move an item once. Okay, preferably not at all.

TS Hendrik said...

The vanity looks great. I know how hard it must have been to resist letting it come off as sarcasm.

Beautiful flowers as always.

Velvet Over Steel said...

Ha.. I am laughing so hard! I can so relate to the conversations and needing those 'canned hams'. My ex used to be like that and now my youngest son (his son too of course :-), does the same thing. ????, measuring tape, doubts of my Great ideas. Ugh... We know what we want and would do it ourselves if we had those strong arms. Geezzz... LOL
So glad that you have it all finally finished and that you Love it all!! So happy for you!!!

Have a Fantastic week, Betty!!!

Yay on the vanity! It looks great too!
I had to crack up with the "What room is the TV room?" and you answering, "The one with the Tv in it." LOL!!!

Dear Bossy Betty,

Can you help us all out and let us know where to get ourselves the same kind of mirror? And while I love the flower pictures, I want to see pics of the new room!!!

What a funny post...as always. Glad I stopped by for some light laughing gas before heading out to find replacements for my nearly new oven and microwave!!! Ugh.

HulaBuns said...

The flowers did fit, but it's only because I measured them with my incredibly accurate eyes prior to opening. I am soooo stealing that line. LOL

The bathroom looks fabulous! Love the mirror, nice pick!

Hooray for plumbers! It sounds like things are back to normal!

Hurrah for zinnias! My second favorite flower (mums still win my best love)! I found a mirror at Home Depot on Saturday that told me that my new hair color was pretty and flattering and not at all witchy. But I had to leave the big guy there. Sigh.

Wow!!! Bet! The mirror is gorgeous! No one can tell it didn't come with the vanity! HOB, I like that you helped Betty move the furniture. :) :) She's good. Listen to her. :)

Today's flowers are the bestest ever! I thought I love picture 1 and then, I saw picture 3 and melted. Beautiful!

Your post evioked memories when my husband was alive and there to do the odd job....... nothing too big like fitting a bathroom but redecorating the rooms. Now I have to pay someone to do it.
It made me smile too,
Thanks for a wonderful post.

How could I miss Monday morning flowers?

Hoorraay for the finished- WORKING vanity! It looks fantastic!

As always, gorgeous flowers!

I eyeballed my screen and yes the flowers will fit nicely thank you very much. That was ever so kind of you to deliver them.
The vanity looks fantastic and good job on getting all that accomplished in one weekend. You wouldn't want to come over to my house next weekend would you?

Ha ha!! If anything has to be moved around here, it is generally me myself and I who do it...
Vanity looks gorgeous--a job well done (on all fronts)!
Gorgeous flowers.

Sounds like all is well -- working vanity, no leaks & gorgeous flowers! :)

Shrinky said...

Ha, oh this hit a note! I want a big wide screen new telly for our living room, but hubby and his bloomin' tape measure say's no. The man hasn't one ounce of creativity in his bones. Hmph.

Why do they always have to make such a drama out of things when they know, no doubt about it, they'll come round to our way of thinking eventually??

Your bedroom sounds GORGEOUS..

Happy new week, Betty. Thanks for the flowers. They fit on my screen, but not in my apt. That's okay, I have some balcony space. Your vanity looks lovely and rather humble.

Another great post! I admire your talent. I can always count on having either a chuckle or a deep thought :)

I LOVE the final product! The mirror is perfect and the lighting is so great, too.

I just had a similar husband convo with another blogger. why do they insist on being pains in the butts?!?! and they wonder about their frequency of entering crazy town.

Leanne said...

Wow Wow Wowza betty! I am so proud of you and HOB!!! Check that out ... care to come to Chicago and help me replace my vanity (by doing all the work for me?) I'll buy the wine!

Georgina Dollface said...

LOL and sigh! I know what you mean! Just because I need help lifting/moving/putting something somewhere, it does not mean that it is open for discussion! I have this problem with my Mom too. Ask her to help put up pictures? Forget it unless you want advice on where everything should go. I'm glad your bed and bath are all done now, nice and pretty, just the way you wanted it. Congratulations! - G
PS - The daisy like flowers, is that feverfew or chamomile?

The room looks great! I know, I hate to admit it but sometimes when there is a certain chore that needs done where I need his strength I just wish he would do it without hesitation, no endless debate, no long list of questions. I wish I could say it and he would do it. Sounds terrible but it is true.

A job well done!

Sometimes we (me and other husbands) feel like you people just move stuff to demonstrate your evil control over us.

We've come to an understanding in my house, my wife can tell me what to do, but she can't tell me how to do it! it works (sorta)!

Cricket said...

Heh, heh.

So you want this piece of furniture in the TV Room? And you've measured the space?

You may have extremely accurate eyes. I know.
Some folks do. My wife does not. We've had this conversation before, and she gets mad when I take out the tape:

"You just don't like my idea!"

"No, I just don't want to move this sofa twice Once in. Then back out when it doesn't fit. The tape doesn't lie."

Even then, I feel that it's my fault somehow that I can't put 72" of furniture into a 65" space.
