August Rushes By
But still catching me unprepared.
Like a matchflame
Bursting on the scene,
Heat and haze of crimson sunsets.
Like a dream
Of moon and dark barely recalled,
A moment,
Shadows caught in a blink.
Like a quick kiss;
One wishes for more
But it suddenly turns to leave,
Dragging summer away."

That poem is so true ~ August is slipping by so quickly. There are Christmas decorations popping out in the stores already. Goodness ~ one would wonder why they bother taking them down in January when they start putting them back out in August!!! Ha!
Hope you are having a terrific week!

August does rush by! I can't believe it's already the 17th!!
BB what lovely words to describe a fleeting hot August.
We hope you have a great day and just in case your students don't realize it...please tell them we said they were lucky to have you for a teacher,

I loved August when I was a kid...it was my birthday month, we were still out of school, summers were nice...
Now, it is just crazy hot and humid and I want summer to end!!
Thank you, Betty. Such a lovely poem. Happy Tuesday to you.
Very nice words. I love the new gull picture
Love the poem, and it is so true. August is flying past. It's a little bit scary, though I am looking forward to the weather cooling off just a bit.
This poem captures exactly how I'm feeling today.
Not sure what happened , it was just starting, this month does sweep by.Nice posting.
Hi Betty, Thank you for sharing these words...Very good. We are back from up north and I hate to say this but the trees are starting to turn there beautiful colors. This summer just flew by.
That's beautiful. And so very true!!
August is flying by too fast and so is the summer!
Thanks for stopping by my place earlier and saying hi!
I'll be back!
That's a great poem. It describes the passing of the season so well. I can't believe summer is almost over!
Yes, exactly! Wonderful poem--and a great photo, too!
The quick kiss made me smile! :D :D
Time running out ain't ever a pretty picture...
Oh, Betty.
Thank you for posting this.
Last night I did savor a sitting-on-the-patio, starlit night with Hong Kong students who don't often see stars.
Reminded me to breathe. Enjoy. Be thankful.

I am ready for FALL!
Yep, first thing you know you look up and it is gone!
The months all have their foibles, don't they? August rushes by, as does December -- and March? Never listen to March. March is a liar.

p.s. My blog roll lists you as asking for help, but that link is broken! Everything okay?
Oh wow! ".. caught in a blink, Like a quick kiss" and summer is gone.
Oh how true. I feel quite melancholy now - hopefully August will end in a blaze of riotous summer!
Take care

Betty - what's the help you're asking for? The new entry could not be found by Blogger.
Ok. If you say so! :)
Very nice. I really liked this poem.
That will be so fitting in a handful of weeks.
.....and with it goes the summer. {{{SIGH}}}. This chick is goin' down kickin' and screaming!!! Heeehehehe....I love summer. :o)
God bless ya and have a terrific day!!!!
What a beautiful and bittersweet poem. This is such a perfect description of how I feel about August. I don't know where the summer went.
The perfect poem for today. the last two lines sum it up perfectly. I hate to see summer being dragged away.
Made me weepy.
August feels like the stage I'm in in my life. Not quite September yet, but at 51, getting there....
between the hiss of the match to a kiss...some excellent imagery in this one...and as summer closes fall steps out in a beautiful dress...
I hate how summer does that to us!
I won't be sad to August give way to
perhaps some cooler weather and less
mowing as the growing season takes
a hiatus.
Hope all is going well with the
return to the school daze.. :-)
Beautiful but sad - I can't believe summer's almost over.
"like a quick kiss".
Almost as satisfying.
As I read your poem I can feel the cool breeze blowing. August has come and gone by so quickly...
Lovely poem.
Great.
