Fair Betty

Yesterday was Fair Day for Betty!

Our County Fair is held right by the ocean.
It was a gorgeous, sunny California day.

Even the ducks were wearing sunglasses.

Roasted Corn was a big seller.

The cookie competition was fierce.
When does Betty get to be a judge in this contest?

Gotta love the jars of homemade pickles.

Here's something for all of you who turned up your noses at my beautiful Tempeh Salad yesterday.

Happy now?

I love the fair. We have ours the week after Labor Day. The sights the sound the smell(well except for the pig barn), I love it all. Of course ours isn't right by the ocean but you can't have everything. Don't think I've ever heard of pork chop on a stick before.

BB what a gorgeous CA day for a fair.
It looks like there was something for everyone. My hubby would be all over the pork chop on a stick!!!
Thankfully our State Fair is in October when it is cooler. We always try to go the first day. I have never seen a cookie contest but I would love to be a judge too. You and I would eat all the entries.
Happy Thursday,
Madi and Mom

We have a fireman's fair in Lon Giland. That's all I'll say about that. FYI...I love your framing of the subject matter (especially the small stuff). Very original.

Ah, yes, love the country fairs. Great ops for photos, as you have shown. We don't really have any county fairs near us where we live now, and even if they did, October still has a high chance of being too hot.
Looking forward to winter here, so I can go out and take some photos...

All I think when I hear fair is food, then go see the other things. Our state fair has everthing on a stick, the pork chops have been around for a long time. I like the county fairs because someare really small and you get a chance to talk to all the kids with their projects.I have bought a few, like lamb and rabbits. If you saw the musical, "State Fair" it was written by an Iowan.I will have a pork chop, pass on the deepfried twinkie, maybe have a few ears of corn. Wait have lots of corn in the garden, make that a grinder.

Fun fair! Ours starts in September. EEK...hot and busy for the 4Hers.

At least they didn't serve fried butter! I kid you not!!!

But I do adore roasted corn.

Take care

Love your pictures, especially the ducks and cookies. Surely they wouldn't miss just one or two?

I miss my hometown fair a great deal. For me, the fair is about the 4H barns and not much else. Midway? It's over there somewhere. Bring me back an elephant ear or a funnel cake, please. I'm gonna go see if I can milk a goat.

1/2 lb of pork chop on a stick? Ewwwww!
Do you have those hot, sugary mini donuts at your fairs? I love those things, they are the best part of the fair season. They aren't available any other time of the year. - G

I can't think of anything much worse than porkchop on a stick.

Looks like you had fun, Betty.

(But I like Bossy Betty better than Fair Betty.)

That's a lot of ducks!
How is the pork chop on a stick? Does the stick add something to it?

Looks like fun, and one of these days I really want to try making my own pickles of course that would mean growing enough cucumbers to make it worthwhile. Perhaps next summer.

It's always interesting to see fairs from other states. :-) Usually some fried sweets is the most popular in Illinois and some kind of fatty meat-ugh.

I think I would like the pork chop on a stick better but first I have to try both of them. So, when are you coming over? ;o)

I really want one of those ducks!
Lovely pics, as always :-)

The people who run your fair certainly have a good sense of humor!

LOL I absolutely loved the ducks!

Great pictures, Betty. I was about to stand in line for the Pork Chop, but the line was 2 miles long and the folks running it ran out to -um- find another pig. Do you have any sandwiches left?

did you submit either cookies or pickles? or did you hold back to allow the "little guys" a chance to win?

Great photos. I like the ducks. Not one for pork chops, though.

Those ducks are stinkin' cute! I want one!! LOL!!!

I laughed my arse off at your last photo and comment!!!! You go, girl!!

Our fair is by the ocean, too, and it seems to get bigger every year. It's a great fair, but sometimes I would prefer it slightly smaller.

How does one get a pork chop on a stick? Is it like a shishkabob? But then it's not a chop... ??

Brian said...

Ducks, corn and pork, sounds more than Fair!

Katie said...

Chicken on a stick sounds great...but Pork on a stick??? Hmm....That one is one I'll have to experience for myself to decide.

Sounds & looks like fun!

Pork on a stick?! Can't go there.
Looks like your fair had something for everyone...

Whatever happened to salt water taffy and cotton candy? I don't suppose you saw any giant turkey drumsticks, did you?

Pat Tillett said...

let's see...

nice post..........check
nice photos........check

All that is going in the crapper if you didn't also get a photo of the pork chop on a stick! You did, right? RIGHT?

This made me look at fairs from a whole new perspective and I'm interested!

Sarah said...

I'm still recovering from the trip to Six Flags, but where is the cotton candy?

Shan said...

I hate to sound picky, but can I just stick with the roasted corn and skip the meat on a stick? *shudder*

Cheeseboy said...

The corn sounds much better than the pork chop.

Ashley King said...

i'll eat it all!!!!

even the rides.... ha!

YUM!!!!

I missed out on my chance to go to our county fair this year. I'm kind of bummed. But there's always next year.

Love the ducks wearing sunglasses--nothing says California Cool like a duck wearing shades!

The ONLY way to have corn on the cob. Healthy & flavorful.

You need to judge the cookie competition & I can volunteer to help, too!

Looks like you had a wonderful time! :)

There were yellow duckies on one of my posts today too! I LOVE yellow duckies!

Now I feel bad for not taking the kids to the fair. Great fun, love the ducks. Porkchop on a sick just sounds ick.

Betty - you take such great photos - I just love them. What a beautiful day at the fair. I wish I could have been there (primarily for the cookies . . . maybe a little for the corn. But, only a little.)
