Betty at the Getty

Sunday HOB (Husband of Betty) and I decided to take a trip into Los Angeles and visit the Getty Museum.
While the art is inside is nice indeed, it's the building I love.

Here's the structure above the front doors.

At the back of the museum is a beautiful garden.

This was the exhibit I was particularly interested in. It was incredible!

Here's the view from one of the upper floors.

Everywhere you look, it's a treat for the eyes.

See what I mean?

We took Evan with us. He really hates going to the Getty, but we needed an afternoon with the boy and we figured it wouldn't hurt him to be exposed to some art.

Ah! Evan did find some art at the Getty he could appreciate. Here he is in the cafeteria, checking out HOB's snazzy new phone.

I love going to the art museum too! My youngest loves going with me except he hates that I don't understand some of the art. I think he has a love/hate relationship with me and my lack of understanding of what makes art art ;o)

Oh BB!!!! Please take me with you next time! LOL!

What an amazing building! I love your photography - I love what catches your eye - the structure and formation of things - the neat curves and odd lines.

I really love the view from the upper floors!!!

Awww great shot of HOB and son! Lovely!

Take care

Great pix! Of course, the phone is more interesting than art. Too funny.

BB thank you for sharing these gorgeous pictures. WOW!!! What a lovely building surrounded by amazing vistas.

Too funny about Evans appreciation of art (aka technology). Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
BTW BB you are surrounded by handsome men!!!

I wanted to go while I was in LA, but our schedule was SO tight. Definitely on the list for next time, especially after this post!

Great building and vistas - no wonder you couldn't help capturing them.

The building really lends a hand to the beauty of the exhibitions.I was amused at the variety of ideas at the special exhibit.I always try to watch the exhibits nearby so not to miss something exciting. My youngest helped me study for an art appreciation class, and was remarkable at recall when I took her to Europe each time.

As always, great pictures. Looks like a beautiful building. Perhaps I will make it there some day.

Yowza! Great art there. Why is it that it's when we are older we learn to appreciate this kind of beauty?

Just love your photos, and "Betty at the Getty" is a very cute and apt title :-)
Wish I'd had chance to go there when I was in LA a couple of years ago, but Universal was more hubby's idea of a fun day! Hopefully next time....

It's nice to see something done well. And aren't we lucky as a culture to be able to support a place like that?

That picture of the boys and their toy says it all. Look at that view outside the window they're ignoring! :eyeroll:

Thanks so much for posting this. When I get to LA hopefully in the next couple of months I want to visit the Getty. From your photos, which are extraordinary, I'm thinking I should just tour the grounds. That architecture, garden and view seems like it would interest me more than the art inside. I'm excited, thanks for this post.

Aging Mommy said...

The view is spectacular and your photos are stunning but not even your brilliance behind the lens can ever make me like that style of architecture :-) But I'd love to see inside the museum one day.

Great Getty photos! As an Angeleno, I go there far too infrequently. I think you've inspired me for a little crosstown road trip of my own!

Thanks for the tour! I love art museums and, you're right, the structure itself and its surroundings are a piece of art, too!

Also reminds me of when we went to Paris and toured the Louvre. My son preferred to sit on a bench in each section, pouting, and listening to his music. UNFREAKINBELIEVABLE!
