Betty: More Than Just a Rolling Target for Kansas Law Enforcement

All trips should be educational trips--right? Betty's road trip home from Kansas is no exception. Having no less than three chances to chat with law enforcement officials on my trip so far, I find I am on my way to collecting data about the demeanor and numerous forms of swag on the uniforms of various police officers.

It's a long story and one that I will inflict on you in over-saturated detail in a later post. Today, though, Betty is a Big Shot on a wonderful blog called Writing Without Periods, written by a very cool chick named Mary. I don't want to brag, but I am featured as the Sensational Woman over there! (Funny, not ONE of the policemen I talked to yesterday called me "sensational." Perhaps they should read Mary's Blog.)

My sister Marlene is with me on this first leg of the journey from Kansas to Denver. HOB flies in to meet me in Denver and then drive the rest of the way back to California. I'm eager for HOB to come and do some evasive driving. Obviously, all those episodes of Starsky and Hutch I watched as a teen are doing nothing to keep me out of trouble with the law.

I must run now! It's back on the road with Betty and Marlene. First stop: Sonic for a Medium Diet Coke with Lime! Second Stop: Bathroom. Third Stop: Bathroom. Fourth Stop: Denver.

I'll try and check in soon. Don't forget to visit Big Shot Betty over at Writing Without Periods, and drive safely, everybody. There are a lot of crazy people out there. (And they really need to get out of my way! I'm in a hurry!)

Congratulations of the Writing Without Periods gig... very impressive. I hope the fact that you haven't written just means you're busy driving and not that one of our boys in blue has incarcerated you! Last summer I drove from California to Maryland. It was not fun. I hope you're trip is. (And fro the record, it's the Kojack driving skills you need when traveling that far.) Hope it's been memorable (in a good way).

LOL. Happy to hear that you are enjoying your trip. If you do get thrown in the slammer make sure they let you have access to a computer so we can hear your views of life in the big house.

BB we hope you are on the road again by now and are managing your lead foot a little better. LOL.
Mom and Dad just stepped into the 21st century..they ordered a GPS which arrived Thursday. I hope to be able to send them on the road for an extended time very soon.
Drive safely

I love talking to law enforcement officials... they are always so thrilled to talk to me, and are so helpful. Sometimes they even give me little slips of paper with everything that I did wrong written down, so I can keep it as souvenier.

Hope you enjoy your trip. Am looking forward to the pics

Pulled over three times? Hope you weren't sited each time, that could be REALLY expensive...

Oh dear! Betty's running from the law?! With your sister along for the ride, for some reason I've got this image of the movie "Thelma and Louise" in my head. HA HA HA! I hope the rest of your trip doesn't include any more chats with the local officials.

Congratulations on being featured on Writing Without Periods. That was fun to read. :)

Enjoy your trip!

How awesome for you! I will have to go check it out!

Congrats to you. It always feels good to have someone praise or writing or our blog, doesn't it? I blog because I have to, but praise does make it more rewarding.

Betty, you've got to slow down, girlie. Just think of the time you are wasting talking to all those cops. Sheesh. And they like to talk....a LOT.

Stay safe, Speed Racer.

I'm sure you could just smile at the
'nice' policemen and get away with
a minor infraction... or you could
pull an OJ and just get them to follow you home.

Well, "chatting" with law enforcement officials doesn't sound so bad... Let's just hope you make the rest of the trip without "free rent" at some of the concrete-and-metal facilities that those law enforcement officials are attached to!

BB!!! What on earth are you doing with these men (and women!) in uniform?!?! Good grief!! I for one was more a Huggy Bear person - but did find Starky with Hutch ever so cute!!!

I love your cow!!!! Love it!!!

And I hope you and HOB and all the various members of the law enforcement meet up soon for a cup of tea and a piece of cake!

A big hello to your sister!!
Take care
x

You sound like a woman after my own heart...with a heavy foot! Safe travels! :)

Tom got a ticket just a few miles before the Texas/Oklahoma border on our last trip to Illinois (December '08). It *just* caught up to us a few weeks ago (insurance-wise... we did pay the ticket). May you also get an 18 month reprieve for any tickets you might have received.

Oh, and thanks for the laughs from reading this. The thanks are purely from me. Apparently the sounds of my laughter annoyed Maisy enough that she moved into the hallway... and then left the area altogether.

Just remember to keep the rubber side down, the shiny side up and only go 5 miles over the speed limit and you should be okay.

Safe travel dear one and try to stay under the radar!!!!

Saw you over at Mary's, just before I got here! Way to go!

Easy does it, lead foot. I don't want to have to bail you out.

Just let me know when you are back in CA so I know which roads to stay off of. ;) I kid.

Hey, I was just over there at Writing Without Periods, but I was totally going to check in with the Bossy Blog anyway tonight to see what you have been up to.

Congrats on the road trip and the chats with law enforcement. I hope they accepted all your bribes.

Ca88andra said...

Congrats! And perhaps slow down a tad so you don't get pulled over again!

I just got back from Mary's blog. That was a nice interview.
Wear invisibility suits the next time. That way, law enforcement won't notice you guys.

Ann said...

I enjoyed your interview. Congrats on being the sensational woman of the day.
My husband always tells me to set the cruise at 72 and they'll leave me alone. Seems to be working. Maybe you should stop and pick up some donuts just in case you get pulled over again. I hear the boys in blue like donuts

Just want to say, You go on the most amazing adventures. Can't wait for pictures.

Oh my Betty it sounds as if you drive like a European! Here's hoping this leg of your trip continues without further encounters with and officers :-)
