Memorial Day Monday Morning Flowers

Normally, I give my Betty People flowers on Monday morning, but this week, I know my readers stand quietly by, gratefully passing these on to those men and women we honor on this holiday.

I have never been able to think of the day as one of mourning; I have never quite been able to feel that half-masted flags were appropriate on Decoration Day. I have rather felt that the flag should be at the peak, because those whose dying we commemorate rejoiced in seeing it where their valor placed it. We honor them in a joyous, thankful, triumphant commemoration of what they did.

--Benjamin Harrison

Happy Memorial Day to you all.

What a tremendous quote. I hope you don't mind if I nab it for my blog. The service of our selfless military and their sacrifices embodies the American spirit and makes me proud to call this nation home.

BB,
Beautiful tribute and pictures!!!

There are 3 military bases located between 2 and 3 hours from Raleigh and we are very proud of each and everyone of them.

Mom says she has never heard of a banana slug...oh my stars. Is there a picture of one of them somewhere? HA

Not sure how I missed this one while looking through posts yesterday...

I agree about not seeing the holiday as one of mourning. I take a few moments to either talk with or email my brother, who was a Marine during the first Gulf War. It's not something I would have willingly done, so I'm even more grateful to him and people like him.
