Poetry Tuesday: Memo

Memo--

You will have to
forgive me
for not
coming to work
today.
I intended to come
as I always do
And even went so far
as to slip into
those beautiful
shoes
but last night
while I was away
the raintree
broke
into sweet yellow blossoms
and all day
I have been there
singing.

Reminds me of, "This Is Just to Say" by Williams -- a cheery mea culpa after a shameful derogation of responsibility. Love it!

This is just to say
I have killed your cat.
Forgive me,
But it was under my tires
When I backed up.
He made a lovely stain
in your driveway
that I will
always
remember.
